If you’re like me you really like to make unusual fashion statements. I can’t think of a better way to do that than with funky crochet hat patterns. Crochet hats are quick projects to make and can be fairly easy, even for the beginner. You can learn how to make them without too much effort and once you get the hang of it, you can make them funky by adding embellishments or using unusual yarns.

Since I’m all about the funky crochet hats I really liked the new patterns by Leisure Arts in one of their latest crochet books: “Crochet Celebrity Slouchy Beanies For The Family.” These far out designs are made by Lisa Gentry who is a funky lady herself, being the fastest crocheter in the world and all. And then, this was so creative, she made these designs to look like the kind of beanie hats celebrities wear when they are trying to not be noticed. All the great photos in this book are made to look like the folks are hiding behind huge sunglasses and you guessed it, funky crochet hats. The patterns in this book total 7, 5 for adults and 2 for kids, which is really fun.

If you have been thinking about tackling a new crochet project, and you think trying some new crochet hats fit the bill, you should check out this new crochet book. I’ve included some of the great photos below.

The designs are endless for caps and beanies and can be used to keep your ears warm, dress up an outfit or hide a bad hair day!

The slouchy rasta beanie hats can be very fashionable and can be great for kids too because they are easy to slip on their heads when you are in a hurry. But you already know how great thise beanies are, don’t you! Well, let me tell you how you can make your own crochet beanies.

Let me tell you about some new crochet slouchy beanie hats from Leisure Arts. The designs are by Lisa Gentry and come in a new book called “Celebrity Slouchy Beanies for the Family”.
What come to your mind when you hear the word flowers, yes splendid colors mixed in one and refreshing to say the least. Be it real flowers that grow in your garden on the the neighborhood park or even artificial ones that are available in multiple colors and also prints.

With all the different colors and aura they come with can help lighten the mood of the most distressed too. Flowers lighten my mood too. And the fact that I know crocheting it allows me to make stupendous craft things with flower theme like fashion accessories for my beautiful daughter, which she can wear outdoors, and hat pins as well. Such designer flowers are rather easy to craft provided you have knowledge of Crochet.

If you can find time to surf the net you will be able to find website that provide online tutorial for easy crochet flower. There are many websites or blogs out there on the internet which should provide you great content and tips on this subject alone.

Here I shall teach you how you can make a simple yet attractive crochet flower.

You can start with a plain crochet hook and 2-3 colors of yarn. Why yarn? This thing can be made with threads too but I simply prefer yarn. Ensure that the dimension of the yarn is fitting well with hook size. Take your first color and use chain six.

Revert to chain number one and do a dc and next go to chain two. Do this time and again and put all these into chain number one. You have eight spokes in hand. Attach the circle with sl st in chain number 3 at your left (this is chain 3 from first spoke) Now build (sc, ch 1, 2 dc, ch 1, sc) and then attach all arches you have made. In this way you learnt to make a petal.

Do this in all eight arches and this will give you your 1st flower. Attach a sl st with 1st sc on the 1st petal. Rotate the flower. Pick another color of your choice, and then create a slipknot and place a crochet hook beneath the color spoke and then draw the 2nd color yarn through.

You are left with two stitches on the hook, draw the hook besides to create one. Chain number six & work a dc through subsequent spoke, chains number three. Redo this dc, chain number three on every spoke. Now create a sl st through 3rd chain of the 1st row that you have already done.

Now turn it to its flip side on right hand side. Place the 1st color petals a little ahead and then do (sc, chain 1, 3 dc, chain 1, sc) above every arch. Put together sl st through 1st sc. Cast off.

With this your flower is prepared. Applying similar steps you can create 2,3,4 or even 5 with have different or similar colors. With every new whirls the flower size will grow bigger. So make one the way that you really want to do.

Crochet learning will always receive the highest accolades amongst all crafts. The creations from a small thread piece and a single hook could be mistaken for some kind of magic.

Wish for something you’d like to have created and patterns would be found easily. Everything from hand gloves to caps, fancy foot wear to wristbands and head gears to cushions to balaclavas, actually the list is unending… it’s not often that you come across an art form that’s revered around the globe and acceptable to the masses too.

Crochet is a high skill art that requires an equally imaginative brain too. I started taking crochet classes at the age of 6 and today after 40 years of learning I can say with authority that crochet amongst all arts is the most diverse.

Those who begin with Crochet making can be forgiven if they are shocked by the art and this can happen only if you are not fully aware of guidelines and instructions. My advice as always will be to start with basics. Begin with an easy type of single colored square patch and gradually add colors, as you go on you can add different patterns and shapes. Only then take on new projects.

Now if this is your opening attempt at Crochet, learn here to make a plain crochet square.

NECESSITIES:

* Beaten weight wool (Pick your color).

*          Tiny scissors.

* Wool needle, rounded edge with large pore.

*          Crochet hook.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CROCHET BEGINNERS:

1. Grip crochet hook firmly in right hand, then tie a tidy, little slipknot on the hook.

2. Place wool above the hook from behind to front and seize the hook.

3. Pull hooked wool from slipknot and put on hook. This process gives you a single chain stitch. Redo step number 2 & 3 in succession 30 times. In the end you have thirty-one chain stitches and a single loop shall be left on the hook.

4. Leave out the 1st chain stitch.

5. Then put a hook in the middle of subsequent chain stitch. Pull wool from the chain stitch all the way to the hook. You have 2 loops on the hook now.

6. Place wool on the hook from behind to front, and then pull it from both the loops onto hook. One loop is left on hook, this gives you your first single crochet stitch. Redo steps number 5 & 6 for all of the remainder of 29 chains – ensure that all 29 chains are done similarly. The result is you have one fully complete row made with single crochet. 2 people having similar thread and hook could have rows with dissimilar widths.

Reason – force applied while stitching. Solution, well be gentle and apply same constant force to the wool besides the hook or else the project shall have dissimilar sizes of knots.

7. At tip of each row, sew a single chain stitch; thereafter rotate the work counter in a circle mode, let the hook remain in chain. Then start a new row, build new stitches on the last row. This process gives shape to the rows. With work on it the rows become more illusive.

8. Create a single crochet stitch from the 1st stitch and thereafter in every left behind stitch of the earlier row. Ensure that you work all the way till the end stitch.

9. Slice the wool from the skin. Pull hook straightforward, taking the wool from the left over loop on hook.

10. Thread wool into needle and sew back and forth from stitches to secure. Well that’s it. Easy ain’t it?

So, you want to learn crochet. Look no further! By reading this article you will learn lots of tricks and secrets to get you off to a good start. I’ll even tell you how you can get more information at the end of this article. Right now, I want you to relax and together we’ll take a look at the intriguing world of crochet.

For starters, if you have an interest in history you’ll want to know that the word crochet has French origins and comes from the word that means “hook”. Crochet is a method of working loops into an interlocked chain. What you do is gather each loop and then bring it through the previous loop in your chain. This method is called crochet and its origins are not entirely clear. It seems to date back as far as the early renaissance period.

This is of little importance really. You probably want to cut to the chase and know whether crochet is a hard skill to pick up. Okay, I’ll be honest. Hard is different to different people. If you were to suffer from arthritis then this kind of activity, using the hands, could prove hard. If you suffer from any condition causing joint pain, then crochet may not be a good choice for you.

Assuming that you are not suffering from pain, let’s take a look at the level of skill you’ll need. Again, hard is a relative term. Every person is dexterous to a certain degree. You may have heard the phrase “all thumbs”. Some people are unable to hold a pen straight or hold a nail to hammer. For these people, crochet would be a very daunting task. Others may take to crochet like a duck to water and pick it up very easily. Some people can do it with their eyes closed or whilst watching TV. They have become that confident in the art of crochet and you could too.

The most honest answer I can leave you with is this. Anybody can learn the techniques of crochet and become brilliant. If you take a look at the resource review in my signature you will learn how to master this great art quickly and easily.

There seems to be a lot of talk about the home-based knitting and crochet businesses. It seems half of the people are saying you can’t make any money with a craft business. The other half are trying to convince you that it is so easy you can get rich overnight with no effort at all.

I am one of the middle folks. You probably will not get rich, unless you became a very exclusive designer. But even so you if being a designer is not in your future you can earn a decent income with your crafts. I say this only because I have done it.

Knitting scarfs, knitting hats and Christmas items of all kinds. Creating crochet baby patterns and loom knitting patterns were all a part of my business.

With some baby crochet patterns and a used knitting machine I began knitting hats and to crochet baby afghans to sell. Of course starting out was slow but as time pasted and my items became known my craft business increased.

My business was started in 1986. Yes I am now retired and no I did not get rich. But I did add to the family income. Also I was able to stay home and raise our children and work my hours around our family life.

It was extremely hectic at times and a lot of work but also a great deal of fun. When you do something you love the big dollars are not always your main goal. My goal was to help with the family budget and still be available for our family life and activities.

My children are now grown with families of their own. I do not regret a moment of being at home with them.

We still have many laughs about when the orders would come in so fast, that all four of us would be pitching in. We would have the living room full of pom poms trying to finish up all the orders for the holidays.

I would knit during the day while they were at school. In the evenings I would do the handwork while we all chatted and watched TV.

The kids tell of fond memories of me always being home when their school day was over. We always had enough money for what we needed. My income helped for all the many extras for the family.

Yes I do recommend being a stay at home Mom, if at all possible. But also do try the craft business you have always dreamed about. You will never be sorry you tried, but you will regret never trying at all.

You know what! We are rich from my home-based business. We never went without and we are rich with many fond memories and no regrets.

If you are not lucky enough to have an older relative who crochets you may be wondering where you can learn this fun craft. Crocheting has never been more popular than it is today. People of all ages and both sexes have taken up crochet. Crochet is a great craft to do since it is highly portable, does not cost a lot to do and requires little space. In addition you can dedicate a few minutes to your latest crochet project on the bus or train or spend hours crocheting to your heart’s delight and still emerge with a fun and creative project. Best of all crocheting is not hard to learn. Like most things it only requires practice to get better which then allows the crafter to take on more complicated projects. But if you are looking to learn how to crochet here are some resources for you to check out:

Ask a friend or relative-One of the best ways to learn anything is from someone who is already experienced. Crochet has always been a craft that has been passed down from generation to generation. If you are not lucky enough to have an aunt or grandmother who crochets, find someone who does. This can be a wonderful way to preserve a crafting legacy and reconnect with someone from another generation. Best of all those who have crocheted for many years may have hooks, patterns and other materials that are no longer readily available in your craft store.

Attend a class-Crafts remain as popular as ever and many craft stores now offer a full complement of classes for would-be crafters of all types. Many of these classes focus strictly on crochet. You can choose to start with a beginner class and work your way up to more advanced projects. This can be a helpful way to learn how to crochet since you will not have to feel awkward (since everyone will be starting just like you) and you will have an expert teacher on hand should you run into a problem or have a question. Many people who take up crochet this way also report that one of the best benefits of learning crochet this way is the friends they make during classes. Best of all these classes are often offered at a reasonable rate (and often include free patterns) making this a cost-effective way to learn how to crochet.

Check out books and magazines-Crochet has turned into a business as well. Today there are many books and magazines that are devoted strictly to the craft of crochet. While this may be a little harder way to learn how to crochet, several of these publications offer step by step instructions for many stitches and some will even offer free patterns. If you can not find a friend or relative to teach you and do not have a craft store nearby then make a stop at the library to gain some crochet information.

Learn online-Like everything else, crochet has moved to the web. Today you can find literally hundreds of sites about crochet. Best of all the web can offer step by step instructions with pictures or video that can be helpful when trying to learn crochet. There are videos to watch, sites to check out and hundreds of crochet patterns that are available simply by clicking onto your computer. In addition many people who crochet purchase their supplies online. There are shopping sites that are strictly devoted to selling the hooks, patterns and yarn you will need with the ease of having it delivered right to your doorstep. Since crochet has become very much a community craft there are also thousands of free patterns online for virtually any type of project that you want to crochet.
